from Colonel Mustard
We find ourselves in a new era again. Bo was dismissed for reasons that became obvious after the fact. In a surprising move Mike Riley is hired as our new coach. As many of you know by now I am college football geek. I was surprised because I thought Riley was a lifer at OSU. But he is extremely well thought of in the coaching profession. Eichorst, whatever you think of him, moved quickly and got his guy. I have been impressed with Riley so far. He has gone about his business in a very organized fashion. He visited committed recruits, hired staff in the dead period, and is aggressively recruiting with the new staff.
I believe the hire will be decided by how the coach and staff handle the pressure of being at Nebraska. With the facilities and the resources comes the attendant pressure to win. If they embrace it and use it to their advantage, I like their chances to succeed. If being on the big stage for the first time for many of them eats them up (as it did with Bo), that will be a problem.
I am sorry that another coaching change was necessary. But I am excited to see what Mike can do with our team. This is a good solid hire and this is not Mike's first rodeo so I believe he will do a good job for us.
I also want to praise Barney and the old staff for doing a great job in the bowl game.
On to the new era. GBR
