Huskers battle Buckeyes to the end in Columbus

Nebraska hung tough with No. 4 Ohio State all day long, but the Buckeyes prevailed in Columbus, 21-17.

Nebraska held a fourth-quarter lead after a touchdown and two-point conversion made the score 17-14, but Ohio State answered with a 75-yard TD drive to account for the final margin.

The Huskers’ last chance ended with a third-and-19 interception near midfield.

Total yardage was nearly even, with neither team topping 300 yards. The Huskers had 18 first downs to OSU’s 11 and controlled the clock for 35 minutes of game time.

The Huskers’ defense gave up two long pass plays for touchdowns in the first half but made a number of key stops to limit the damage by the Buckeyes. Two John Hohl field goals, one of them a 54-yarder as time expired in the second quarter, kept the Huskers in striking distance at 14-6.

Commentary

Stryker

Have we seen this movie before? ... Or will the hard-fought 21-17 loss in the Horseshoe be a substantial step in a long-awaited revival for Nebraska football?

Christopherson

What will hurt the most about this one actually is that Nebraska will see many ways this game could have been in its pocket.

Feit

Even though Nebraska fell, the sky is no longer falling. Morale is mostly restored to where it was a few weeks ago.

If that’s the defense the Huskers are going to get the next four games, they’ll have a chance to win each.

Omaha World-Herald
Sherman

Do you trust the Huskers? That is the question now. Because if you do, reason exists to believe they can win any or all of their final four games

The Athletic
Just

Embarrassed last week against Indiana. Disappointed this week against Ohio State. That's at least trending in the right direction.

Satterfield’s obsession with making the offense dynamic through short throws has not worked out all year with Saturday being no exception.

This team hasn’t proven its championship caliber and it’s running out of time to do so.

Buckeye Nation can’t be ecstatic with the final score. One positive? Will Howard completed two long touchdown passes. Finally.

Columbus Dispatch
Robinson

Ohio State has nobody to blame but itself for the depth issues on the offensive line getting this bad.
