The straight scoop from
Colonel Mustard

Dec. 10, 2001

That was the best weekend in the history of Nebraska football that didn't include a game. The MVP of college football won the Heisman. And we get to play in the Rose Bowl with a chance to be national champs. We should be loose in the big game because we are lucky to be there. But it eats me up that poor Colorado got left out. Hey, Gary, you lose two, you're out. Next time don't call a pass. But we get our at bat -- a chance to win the big one. If I had told you in August that we would be 11-1 and in the Rose Bowl, you would have been happy. No matter what has happened, we have a chance at our ultimate goal. And in the Rose Bowl.

Miami is very good and has a great O-line and two first-round picks at the tackles. This reminds me of '83 when the No. 1 team played a team that was thrilled and surprised to be there. I welcome all those who say we shouldn't be in the game. Frank needs to use this for motivation. We have the second-best winning percentage in the country, and the two teams with 11 wins are playing. What do they want us to do, turn it down? Colonel Jr. and myself will be at the game. The last time the blessed institution played in the Rose Bowl, my dad knew the whole team because he was in school. If you are a fan, don't miss this one. It could be a long time before we play in a Rose Bowl for the national championship. I wouldn't miss it for the world.
