Huskers stymie Buffs’ offense, coast to big win

Nebraska dominated on both sides of the ball during the first half, charging to a 28-0 lead en route to a 28-10 win over old rival Colorado.

During the first half, Colorado was held to minus-17 yards on the ground as the Huskers’ pass rush got to CU’s Shedeur Sanders again and again, sacking him four times. Nebraska also stopped the Buffaloes on a fourth-and-1, Tommi Hill returned an interception for a touchdown, and Ty Robinson blocked a field goal attempt.

On offense during the first two quarters, Nebraska running back Dante Dowdell had a pair of rushing touchdowns and quarterback Dylan Raiola was 14-for-17 passing for 126 yards and a touchdown. That touchdown pass, to Rahmir Johnson, could have been an interception, but Johnson knocked the ball into the air to himself and ran it in for the score.

The Huskers got little done on offense during the final two quarters amid a blizzard of penalty flags and miscues. With the help of a blocked punt and a targeting penalty, the potent Colorado offense finally found the end zone with less than nine minutes remaining in the game.

Commentary

Stryker

The Huskers have a lot of work to do on offense and special teams, but they have a defense that will make them a threat in every game they play this fall.

The return to national relevance has been long, but the journey is now complete. What comes next is up to Rhule, Raiola and the rest.

Nebraska’s pass rush devoured Colorado’s offensive line Saturday. Everyone, and I mean everyone, was feasting. And it started from the jump.

The win over CU delivered in several areas, but it also showed that Nebraska is still building this football team under Rhule in year two.
