That was a very interesting game Friday. There were more trick plays than I can remember seeing in any previous game. I hope it was not a situation that we felt we needed the tricks to win the game. It was encouraging that we improved from the 1st half to the 2nd. We had struggled in the 3rd quarter all year so it was good to break that trend.
On offense Zac had a solid game and Jackson has now become a workhorse. Jackson's fumble problems are surprising because he typically carries the ball high and tight. The running game remains very inconsistent. Pass protection was solid except for the left tackle position, and Zac did a good job to step up and evade that rush.
The defense never made me feel comfortable during the game. Our tackling and angles to the ball were very poor. We are going to need to upgrade the talent in the secondary and get more speed at linebacker. An additional problem is that we have trouble getting off blocks.
So now we have old rival Oklahoma in KC. I personally thought that either team would be difficult. Texas has the WR and QB to hurt our secondary. However in the Texas game Mack used them sparingly. Oklahoma has a great defense and a good running game. Their QB and WR don't pose the same problems as Texas's. We must be able to run enough to keep them honest and tackle better to win. I see a low-scoring, close game.
Keep the faith. GBR.
