Humiliation: Hoosiers make easy work of Huskers

The Huskers were outclassed in every way imaginable in Bloomington, suffering a 56-7 beatdown against the undefeated Hoosiers and their first-year head coach.

Indiana made it look easy all day, rolling to a 28-7 halftime lead and doubling its point total during the final 30 minutes with a backup quarterback at the helm. The Hoosiers rolled up 343 yards of total offense in the first half and finished with just under 500.

Starting quarterback Kurtis Rourke was nearly flawless for Indiana before leaving the game with an injured throwing hand. The senior transfer from Ohio completed 17 of 21 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown. His one interception was on a Hail Mary on the final play of the first half.

Backup quarterback Heinrich Haarberg was the only Husker with more than more than 25 yards rushing. Tight end Thomas Fidone had a career-best day with six catches for 91 yards, and he delivered a textbook block on the Huskers’ lone touchdown. Dylan Raiola threw three interceptions while completing 28 of 44 passes for 234 yards.

Commentary

Stryker

Here’s where we’ll find out a lot about Rhule and his staff’s ability to develop talent. Not next Saturday in Columbus, but in the final four games.

Stukenholtz

The defense got out-played, out-coached, really out-everything’d by Indiana’s offense. It was an unacceptable performance from the Blackshirts in almost every way.

The rot that infested this great program didn’t occur in two seasons, so why should we expect it to be magically fixed in a year and a half?

HuskerMax/SI
Callahan

Rhule has his work cut out of him, mainly because his offense seemingly is lacking an identity.

Christopherson

The biggest concern is this was the performance Nebraska came up with a week after a bye and some self-evaluation time.

Rubek

Outside of a career day from junior tight end Thomas Fidone II, Nebraska’s pass catchers made no positive impact.

Indiana, in game seven of the Cignetti era, was the more physical bunch. That’s confidence. That’s purpose. That's coaching.

Where do we even begin here? This game was a masterclass in offensive, defensive and special teams malpractice.

It's time to sit your children down and have a serious conversation with them about the No. 16 Indiana Hoosiers being a legitimate College Football Playoff contender.

CBS Sports

The sheer scope of Indiana’s domination had to have even the most wildly optimistic Indiana fan agape.

So does Rhule have his finger on the pulse of this team? Question everything.
