Huskers fall to Illini in overtime
Luke Altmyer outdueled Dylan Raiola as the Illini traded scoring drives with the Huskers in regulation and then dominated overtime for a 31-24 win.
Nebraska had its chances late in the fourth quarter, but Raiola overthrew an open receiver in the end zone, and a field goal attempt from 39 yards was wide left.
Illinois needed just two plays to score its overtime touchdown, gashing the Blackshirts with a 21-yard run and then scoring easily on a short pass. The Huskers then went backward in their attempt to match the Illini’s score, suffering a false-start penalty and three quarterback sacks.
With that performance in overtime, Nebraska extended a nearly decade-long streak of failing to score in OT or to even get a first down.
