1906: The Nebraska-Doane practice game continues to generate skepticism about football's new rules.
1941: NU appears likely to be the program hit hardest in the Big Six by losses of players to military service.
1961: Thunder Thornton stars as the Varsity rallies from a halftime deficit for a 35-20 win in the last of Nebraskas 10 spring games pitting the Varsity against the Alumni.
1966: The Whites use a stifling defense and efficient quarterbacking by Al Fierro to whip the Reds, 28-10, in the spring game at Seacrest Field.
1971: Scoring and attendance records fall as the Reds bury the Whites, 64-21, in the spring game in front of 18,000 fans. Eight players scored touchdowns for the Reds.
1976: Former Husker Larry Frost becomes head coach at Lincoln High School.
2006: Tom Osborne loses in the Nebraska Republican gubernatorial primary to incumbent Dave Heineman.
2016: Harvey Perlman acknowledges missteps and miscalculations with the football program during his tenure as chancellor and says a would-be wow hire to replace Frank Solich got cold feet.
