Official recap
Nebraska fullback Tom Rathman exploded for an 84-yard touchdown run in the final minute of the third quarter, breaking a 7-7 tie and starting Nebraska on its way to a hard-earned 17-7 win over vastly improved Colorado — which was playing without its top two quarterbacks. The Huskers yielded 218 total yards to the Buffs while piling up 445 themselves. Rathman (115) and I-back Doug DuBose (125) contributed 240 on the ground.
H'MAX NOTES: After the game, NU coach Tom Osborne praised the Buffs' defense and kicking game. CU's Barry Helton averaged better than 50 yards on his eight punts. ... Colorado's touchdown capped a 10-play, 70-yard drive. ... NU's Dale Klein entered the game with a streak of nine consecutive successful field goals, but he missed on attempts of 46 and 42 yards before making a 32-yarder.
