Both the offensive and defensive units played superbly as the Huskers continued their domination over the Colorado Buffaloes, 52-14. The Buffs jumped to an early 14-3 lead on a 100 yard Howard Ballage kick-off return and a two yard James Mayberry run.
But from there, it was all Nebraska. Two field goals by Billy Todd, two touchdowns by Rick Berns, and four other NU scores accounted for the margin of victory.
The Nebraska Blackshirts held the Buffs to 185 total yards and intercepted three passes. Linebackers Lee Kunz and Bruce Dunning led the Huskers with 11 and nine tackles, respectively.
The offense tallied 641 total yards, 463 coming on the ground. Rick Berns paced the Husker backfield with 132 yards and two touchdowns. I.M. Hipp added 92 yards and one touchdown while quarterback Tom Sorley completed eleven passes for 178 yards.
Place kicker Billy Todd kicked three field goals of 27, 24, and 45 yards and added three extra points to lead the Husker scoring attack.
