Wingback Tom Heiser picks up yardage. Freshman I-back Monte Anthony sets records in romp over ’Cats
Coming off its loss to Wisconsin, Nebraska gained sweet revenge over Big Ten opponent Northwestern as the Huskers demolished the Wildcats 49-7.
With Dave Humm at the controls, back from a hip injury, NU scored the third time it had the ball. Wingback Don Westbrook ran around left end for a five-yard touchdown run and with Mike Coyle’s kick, Nebraska led 7-0. That set the stage for the rest of the day.
Nebraska scored four more times in the first half and twice in the second half. Northwestern managed only one score, that coming in the fourth quarter.
Freshman running back Monte Anthony set modern-day freshman Nebraska varsity records by rushing for 111 yards on 14 carries and scoring one touchdown.
Nebraska dominated the team stats, garnering 30 first downs to Northwestern’s 11 and getting 563 total offensive yards to the Wildcats’ 181.
