Huskers thump Buffs in Boulder
Behind the running of freshman I-back Monte Anthony and the pinpoint passing of quarterback Dave Humm, Nebraska defeated Colorado 31-15 at Folsom Field before an ABC-TV regional audience.
Anthony carried the ball for 157 yards on 23 carries. His biggest run was a 55-yard jaunt in the third quarter that helped set up a touchdown after the Buffaloes had twice threatened to cut into the Huskers’ 17-0 halftime lead.
Humm completed 12 of 20 passes for 165 yards. Nebraska’s first score came on a five-yard, first-quarter pass from Humm to tight end Larry Mushinskie. Humm also threw a 16-yarder to wingback Don Westbrook for a TD in the third period after Anthony’s long run.
Nebraska carried a 31-0 lead into the fourth quarter before Colorado scored twice in the final frame. A key statistic was turnovers; the Buffaloes lost the ball five times and Nebraska just once.
Nebraska improved to 3-1 in the conference and 6-2 overall with a trip to Iowa State up next.
