Husker defense suffocates Wildcats
Kent McCloughan’s 69-yard swing around left end for a first-quarter touchdown set the pace as the Nebraska Cornhuskers gained their second Big 8 win of the year with a 47-0 rout of the Kansas State Wildcats.
A Homecoming crowd of 46,056 saw the unbeaten Huskers lead 27-0 at halftime, then turn the game over to the reserves during the second half.
The Huskers had a 5-0 record for the year, a spot in the Top 10, and 12 straight wins to their credit.
H’MAX NOTES
• Kansas State was held to 36 yards of total offense and three first downs.
• Despite their meager statistics, the Wildcats threatened to make it a 7-7 game in the first quarter after blocking a Nebraska punt and returning it 51 yards to the NU 7. Three runs went nowhere, and a 25-yard field goal attempt sailed wide.
• Another blocked punt gave KSU the ball at the NU 26 late in the third quarter, but two plays lost 22 yards and Preston Love intercepted a third-down pass and returned in 65 yards for a Husker touchdown.
