Huskers fall to Trojans: For the second straight week, Nebraska out-yarded its opponent but could not overcome early turnovers in a 24-19 loss to Troy.

The Trojans, the defending Sun Belt Conference champions, improved to 2-1. Nebraska slipped to 0-2 for the first time since 1957.

Nebraska managed 364 total yards with junior Andrew Bunch playing from start to finish at quarterback. Bunch completed 19 of 27 passes for 177 yards with two touchdowns, but he also threw a pair of interceptions. He added 23 rushing yards on 10 carries.

Three first-half turnovers by Nebraska and a 58-yard punt return for a touchdown by Troy’s Cedarius Rookard helped the visitors jump out to a 17-0 lead midway through the second quarter.

Maurice Washington led the Husker rushing attack with 92 yards on 14 carries, while Greg Bell added 68 yards on 14 totes.

Commentary

Stryker

On a day when the Huskers needed their offensive line to step up and give their second-string quarterback a shot to win, it leaked at crucial moments.

HuskerMax
Chatelain

The past two Saturdays are a cold, cruel reminder of just how far Nebraska has to go.

Omaha World-Herald
Sallee

The rebuilding job is going to take a long time. ... Patience is a virtue, Cornhuskers fans.

Vogel

If last week’s loss to Colorado was full of things the Huskers could fix, the loss to Troy was proof that those planned fixes didn’t take.

Hail Varsity
Callahan

The offensive line took a step back today. Troy was slanting and doing a lot of movement before the snap. NU did not handle this very well.

HuskerOnline
Peterson

This is the team’s sixth consecutive loss. The Huskers are 4-12 in their last 16 games. Ultimately, Nebraska just needs to learn how to win again.

Hail Varsity
Shatel

One week after we lauded the Huskers’ passion and fight, Frost seemed to question whether everyone was on board. He was right to draw that line in the sand now.

Omaha World-Herald
Hardesty

Given how low the program had sunk by the end of last season, Frost had to hit the reset button in the offseason. This is what that looks like.

Daily Nebraskan
Sipple

Getting Martinez back would guarantee nothing, particularly against Michigan. Nebraska has myriad issues. In other words, don't hang this loss on Bunch.

Lincoln Journal Star
Hamar

Now, with six straight losses, it almost seems like this team has forgotten how to win.
