With Willie Harper sidelined by injury, his replacement at defensive end received a vote of confidence Thursday from coach Bob Devaney.

Devaney conceded that Harper’s speed would be missed during Saturday’s showdown with Oklahoma, but he called Doug Johnson “a tough kid, and he’s not a bad football player either.” Johnson, like Harper, was a sophomore.

Sophomore cornerback Joe Blahak, fresh off a three-interception performance against Kansas State, on Thursday became the latest Husker to be nominated for All-America consideration.

The Sooners were scheduled to arrive in Lincoln early Friday evening after a short practice in Norman. The Lincoln Star’s Hal Brown predicted a 38-21 Nebraska victory.
