Huskers fall hard as Nittany Lions have their way

The Huskers were thoroughly outplayed on both sides of the ball as Penn State cruised to a 37-10 victory at Beaver Stadium.

After Nebraska’s game-opening drive was stuffed on fourth down near the goal line, it was all Penn State. The Nittany Lions drove 98 yards for a touchdown and continued to move the ball with astonishing ease on the ground and through the air en route to a 23-3 halftime lead.

Penn State didn’t punt until late in the third quarter. That led to the Huskers’ only touchdown, an 11-yard scramble by TJ Lateef that capped a 59-yard drive. Nebraska did threaten again late in the game but turned the ball over on downs at the PSU 13.

A little over half of Emmett Johnson’s 103 rushing yards came on a 52-yard jaunt on the opening drive, while Penn State’s Kaytron Allen led all rushers with 160 yards. PSU’s Ethan Grunkemeyer was a nearly perfect 11-of-12 passing for 181 yards.

The Huskers are now 7-4 on the season with a Black Friday game against Iowa coming next.

Commentary

Stryker

All in all, it was a bad night for the Huskers’ front seven, and nothing to write home about for the secondary.

HuskerMax/On SI
Henry

There was no greater show of disrespect for Rhule and the Huskers than a fake punt in the fourth quarter.

HuskerMax/On SI
Christopherson

It wasn't a hostile crowd. Just hostile treatment on the field by the home team taking what it wanted.

Sipple

If you’re a Nebraska fan, you expect a lot more progress from the program than what this game showed.

HuskerOnline
Callahan

Penn State was the first team to go for over 400 yards on the Blackshirt defense all season.

HuskerOnline
Ketterson

The defense’s weaknesses — long drives and chunk runs — were on full display.

Corn Nation
Shatel

This one was all about culture, playing with passion, wanting it more, execution, all that jazz.

Omaha World-Herald
Just

Not much went right for Nebraska — in any phase of the game.

Lincoln Journal Star
Rubek

Lateef couldn’t live up to his UCLA performance, but still had some beautiful throws down the stretch.

Daily Nebraskan
Johnston

The Nittany Lions rushed with conviction because they knew Nebraska’s defensive front couldn’t stop them.
