Huskers cruise past Huskies

As expected, Nebraska had no trouble putting away Houston Christian. With a 38-0 lead at halftime, the game was turned over to second- and third-teamers and the Huskers cruised to their second lopsided victory in a row, 59-7.

Dylan Raiola sat out the second half after passing for 222 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the first 30 minutes. TJ Lateef completed all five of his passes, including a 62-yard touchdown bomb to fellow true freshman Cortez Mills.

The defense scored for the second week in a row when Riley Van Poppel jarred the ball loose from the quarterback and Williams Nwareni returned it 29 yards for a touchdown.

During the 38-0 first half, only the Huskers’ first and last offensive possessions left much to quibble about. Nebraska opened the game by driving to the HCU 6 but settled for a field goal. A possession in the final minute that provided an opportunity for two-minute-drill work went nowhere.

Commentary

Stryker

At 3-0, the Huskers have already proven they can, and very likely will, be a good team. Achieving consistency is the next step on the climb.

Henry

Outside of one big play, the Blackshirts put together another dominant effort.

Christopherson

It’s one of those games where you can overlook how under control QB1 was given how easy Nebraska had it on the scoreboard.

Shatel

It’s a team that answered its coach's challenge and executed all day.

If this season has been about taking incremental steps, next week would be another one.

Nebraska won 59-7 and I’m nitpicking. That’s only a good sign.
