Postgame notes: 2021 Nebraska vs. Fordham football

  • The Husker victory improved Nebraska to 13-0 all-time against FCS opponents, and marked NU’s first win against an FCS foe since a win over Bethune-Cookman in 2018.
  • Nebraska won its home opener for the 34th time in the past 36 seasons.
  • Quarterback Adrian Martinez completed 17-of-23 passes for 254 yards and a touchdown. With his 17 completions, Martinez now has 514 career completions. He is the third Husker with 500 or more completions, joining Tommy Armstrong Jr. (625) and Taylor Martinez (575).
  • Martinez passed for 254 yards to push his career passing total to 6,114 yards. He is the third Husker to pass for 6,000 career yards, joining Tommy Armstrong Jr. (8,871) and Taylor Martinez (7,258).
  • Martinez accounted for 287 yards of total offense to increase his career total to 8,034 yards, moving him into third place on the Nebraska career total offense list. In today’s game he passed 2001 Heisman winner Eric Crouch (7,915 yards) on the career list.
  • Senior receiver Samori Toure caught eight passes for 133 yards, including 6-103 before halftime. He also rushed for 35 yards on three carries, including an 8-yard touchdown run. Toure’s 100-yard receiving effort is his first at Nebraska and his ninth career 100-yard receiving game. He had eight 100-yard games at Montana, including six in 2019.
  • Toure’s 133 receiving yards is the most by a Husker since JD Spielman had 160 receiving yards at Illinois in 2019.
  • Running back Markese Stepp rushed 18 times for 101 yards, marking his first career 100-yard rushing game.
  • Tight end Austin Allen caught four passes for a career-high 61 yards. The yardage total bettered his previous career high of 43 receiving yards vs. Illinois in 2020.
  • Nebraska had 633 yards of total offense, surpassing 500 yards for the first time since putting up 531 yards at Maryland in 2019.
  • Senior safety Deontai Williams had two interceptions in the game, giving him four career interceptions. His other two interceptions came in the 2018 season. Williams is the first Husker with two interceptions in a game since Myles Farmer had a pair of interceptions last season at Northwestern.
  • Senior safety Marquel Dismuke blocked a Fordham field goal in the second quarter. It marked his first career blocked field goal and the second blocked kick of his career (punt in 2018). Dismuke’s blocked field goal is the first for Nebraska since Randy Gregory blocked a field goal against Minnesota in November of 2014.
  • Senior nickel back JoJo Domann had a first-quarter interception, marking the first INT of his career.
  • Cornerback Quinton Newsome recorded a four-yard sack in the first quarter, marking his first career sack.
  • Receiver Omar Manning made his first career start. Manning finished the game with career highs of three receptions and 54 receiving yards.
  • Nebraska had three takeaways in today’s game, turning the three turnovers into 21 points. The three takeaways are Nebraska’s most since having four at Maryland in 2019.
  • Nebraska limited Fordham to 292 yards of total offense, marking the sixth straight game the Huskers have held opponents to fewer than 400 yards. This is the first time Nebraska has held six straight opponents to less than 400 yards of offense since the final six regular-season games of the 2012 season.
