HUNTING FOR BIG RED
On Saturday afternoon, March 20th at the Oak
Creek Sporting Club near Brainard, Nebraska, the annual "Hunt With The Huskers"
event was held. The hunt, sponsored by Gerry Gray of Great Plains
Marketing, attracted about 20 former Husker football players as well
as many Husker fans who got a chance to go hunting with the
former Husker greats.
Among those Husker players attending were Dr. Rob
Zatechka (OT '91-'94), Chris Dishman (OG '93-'96), Chad Kelsay (DE '95-'98),
Zach (OT '91-'94) and Erik Wiegert (OT '89-'91) , Terry Connealy (DT
'91-'94), Dan Pensick (DT '77-'79), Brenden Stai (OG '91-'94), Joel Makovicka
(FB '95-'98), Marc Munford (LB '84-'86), Matt Hoskinson (OG '95-'97). The
event was MC'd by Adrian Fiala (LB '67-'69) who co-hosts "Big Red Wrap Up" and
has been the Color Voice of the Huskers for many years.
The food was plentiful and everyone seemed to
have a great time. Husker fans who want to
be a part of next year's event can contact Gerry Gray at Great Plains Marketing
at 402-393-0492 or visit his web site at www.greatplainsmktg.com.
HUSKERS ON THE RADIO
Also, please note there will be several Husker
football radio shows coming up in the next few weeks that can be accessed via
the Internet at www.1620TheZone.com. On Wednesday
nights from March 31st-April 14th, "Husker Beat Radio Show," co-hosted by
Mike'l Severe and Steve Sipple will air from 6:05 pm-7:00 pm
(CDT). And beginning Thursday, April
1st, and running through April 15th each Thursday, "The Huskeradio Hour Show"
hosted by Joel Makovicka and Matt Hoskinson also will air from 6:05 pm-7:00 pm
(CDT).
And don't miss a special two hour edition of
the "Huskeradio Hour Spring Game Show," featuring Joel Makovicka and Matt
Hoskinson. It will air from 10:05 am-12:00 pm (CDT) the day of the
Spring Game, Saturday, April 17th.
FUTURE HUSKER?
J.T. Nabity may not yet be a household name for
most Husker fans, but you may want to mark down the first week of
February of 2013 on your calendars. Why? Because that
likely will be the week J.T. signs his letter of intent to play
football at Nebraska. Why all the hype? J.T. is 6'3" and weighs 254
pounds-and the lad is only a freshman at Fremont High School in
Fremont, Nebraska. J.T. will be attending one of the Husker football camps
in Lincoln this summer. His mother, Susan, also told me that J.T. has an
80 mph fastball.
SUHING THE RED ZONE
On Sunday, March 7th, Mrs. Husker Dan and
I attended a signing session that gave Husker fans a chance to meet
star defensive tackle, Ndamukong Suh. The Red Zone, run by Steve Clark and
his mother, Sherry, coordinated the event. It took two hours for Suh to
sign over 400 autographs. Suh autographed a #93 Husker
jersey that will likely be auctioned on Ebay. We will use the
proceeds to raise money for our third annual "Husker Fans' Salute To The
Troops" celebration that will take place the weekend of September 18th-19th
at the Cornhusker Marriott Hotel in Lincoln, Nebraska.
COINS FOR THE TROOPS
You can help support this event by buying the
official Husker Salute coin on line at
http://www.huskersalute.org/husker-salute-coin.html.
When you buy these coins, you will be helping to honor American veterans and
troopers. With the help of our major sponsors and the Northeast Kansans
For Nebraska Alumni Association, we will provide a weekend that will
include a special tour of Memorial Stadium, a Husker Football Watch Party and
a Sunday morning brunch that will honor the veterans, troopers
and their family members who attend.
We will give you updates as they come
available.
