Nebraska's season began on a lackluster note as fumbles plagued the Cornhuskers in a game against a surprisingly tough South Dakota squad.
South Dakota took a 6-0 lead 15 minutes into the game, and Nebraska didn't draw even until scoring a touchdown on Buck Beltzer's one-yard run seven minutes before the final gun.
According to the AP account of the game, Nebraska three times lost fumbles within 15 yards of the South Dakota goal in the first half.
