Chase Williams interview

Wecome, everybody, to the Carriker Chronicles, the people's show! Today I am joined by one of the latest Husker big-time commits, a four-star recruit out of California -- that Calibraska movement, Mr. Chase Williams. How ya doing, my friend?

Chase Williams: I'm good, how are you?

Adam Carriker: I'm good, man! So I know you've answered this question before but for the folks who didn't hear the answer, I want to ask it again. Because you've got offers from Georgia, Notre Dame, Oregon, USC, UCLA, Washington, Utah -- basically the Milky Way Galaxy. So what made you choose the great state and school of Nebraska?

CW: I went there for the spring game -- that was my first time visiting. So right when I got there, it was just a place I felt comfortable with. I had been to other schools, and you have the pros and cons -- I always had something good about a school, but then something always held me back from just liking the school completely. And when I was at Nebraska, no part of it ever held me back. It was like "Yeah, this is the school I really want to be at." Plus, I know the group that I'm going to be around -- the coaches, the recruits, the other players that are going to be there now are going to be a really good group and (they're) the group I think can win a National Championship. And with the coaches as well, I think they're going to develop me the best so those are just the key parts.

AC: That is a great response. Now you are listed at 6'2", 188 pounds, 40-yard dash of 4.69, 32-inch vertical leap. You're listed as an athlete right now. Are you thinking offense, defense, wide receiver, defensive back when you get to Nebraska?

CW: Defensive back!

AC: I like it! Blackshirt! Now what excites you the MOST about playing at Nebraska and the future of Husker football? You talked about it a little bit, but what excites you the MOST?

CW: Just seeing how they are as a team. Seeing how exciting they are, seeing how fast they play as a team. How the coaches are really involved and stuff like that. I talk to coach Donte (Williams) before and seeing how they coach and what they do with players -- I think that interests me the most.

AC: Now you mentioned Coach Donte. Was he the coach that was most instrumental in getting you to come to Nebraska or was it someone else?

CW: Yes, it was him and Coach Keith Williams.

AC: Alright, now who else is coming with you? What guys are you working on, what other guys are gonna be coming with you from this Calibraska movement to join the Cornhuskers?

CW: As far as right now, it's Emmanual Allen that's coming with me. Bookie is also coming with me. He's at Florida now but he's from California. There's a few others that are in the younger class that aren't committed that I'm trying to talk to about it.

AC: Keep working on those guys for us! Now, who do you emulate your game after, whether it be a former college football player, NFL guy, what would you say is your biggest strength of your game?

CW: My biggest strength I would say would mostly be size and (with) me coming from a receiver background, I'm more comfortable playing the ball and knowing the timing of certain routes and knowing what the quarterback and the receiver are thinking. I think I have a basic overall knowledge and the athletic ability from a receiver standpoint to go up and make plays as a DB. So it's like I'm playing receiver as a DB. I know what they're thinking, I know what they're trying to do. And then when it comes to the ball in the air, timing, catching, going up for it and stuff like that.

AC: Is there anybody you emulate your game after or are you just your own breed?

CW: I'm trying to emulate as best as I can to play like a Patrick Peterson (Arizona Cardinals). He's one of my favorite players in the NFL and one that I've always liked the most just because of technique-wise and he's very humble. He's very down to earth and a good person and when it comes down to when he's on the field, he's mainly one of those people who is slept on, because people don't see him as like a Richard Sherman or Josh Norman. Just because he isn't as loud, but I see it like he's one of the best corners in the NFL. So that's who I like to say I emulate myself after.

AC: Between you and me I actually think he (Peterson) is the best corner in the NFL, and you're right, he's humble and he's a great return man as well. So if that's who you emulate, I love that! So, you're enrolling early next year, you'll be able to participate in winter conditioning and spring ball. What factored into you making that decision?

CW: Just wanting to come in and play (and) make an impact on the team early and just to really get my spot early so I can help the team out and start developing myself the best that I can as fast as possible.

AC: Now some people are familiarizing themselves with you in the past couple weeks since you've committed. Tell Husker fans something that very few people know about you.

CW: I'm one of those people who's always working hard and trying to get other people to work hard. I'm making people have fun at the same time! I'm not the guy who's super serious and has no fun with it. I like to get all my teammates involved like that. I like to have fun (when we're working) when we're working for the team to get better.

AC: Alright, now do you have a message that you'd like to relay to Husker Nation? The floor is open for you right now.

CW: Just keep believing! We're going to do something special, with the other recruits and the coaches now.

AC: (Nodding his approval) I like it, I like it. Now final question: do you have a question for Husker fans? What I'm going to do is I'm going to tag you on twitter, when I post this tomorrow night and on facebook. I guess you don't have facebook?! Create an account so you can interact with the fans! So basically do you have a question you'd like to ask Nebraska fans? Then you can check out their responses when I post this show.

CW: The question I'd ask: We like to see the fans involved, so what would you like to see from us? So what would you guys like to see us do?

AC: There you have it, Husker Nation, let us know what you would like to see out of the fans, out of these recruits, and out of the commits. Hit us up on Twitter and Facebook, let us know your thoughts! And until Fast Friday Husker Nation -- be sure to tune in. I'm going to discuss when Nebraska will be elite again in my humble opinion and this man right here (Williams) might have something to do with that. I will also be joined by two very special small-in-stature but great-in-size guests. So until Fast Friday, GO BIG RED and always remember ...

CW: THROW THE BONES!!!
