Matt Rose, who finished with nine points off the bench, answered with a three at the other end for Samford. A Shields 3-pointer again cut the lead to five, but the school from Birmingham, Ala., iced the game down the stretch at the free throw line. In all, Samford went 21-of-26 from the foul line, including 19-of-23 in the second half.
