Huskers struggle in 9-2 defeat

Nine Husker pitchers took the mound and gave up a season-high 15 hits to the Bears, who picked their first road win of 2014. Freshman Ben Miller was a bright spot on the mound for Nebraska, as the lefty threw 2.0 innings of shutout relief with three strikeouts.
The Huskers continue their homestand at 4:35 p.m. Friday against the University of California Irvine Anteaters.
The three-game series continues at 2:05 p.m. Saturday and 12:05 p.m. Sunday.At the plate, senior Michael Pritchard extended his consecutive on-base streak to 57 games when he lined a two-out single of the middle in the first innings. Pritchard is now tied for the longest active streak in the country with Texas' Mark Payton.
Northern Colorado (5-13) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first with three hits off freshman starter Jake Hohensee. The Lincoln native was in position to get out of the inning without any damage, but a two-out double and a wild pitch plated the pair of runs. The Bears pushed their lead to 4-0 with a bases-loaded infield single in the third followed by another RBI single in the fifth inning.
The Huskers cut the Bears' lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI groundout by Taylor Fish, but the Bears got the run back and added another in the top of the sixth, pushing its lead to 6-1.
The Bears tacked on three more runs before the Huskers plated a run in the bottom of the eighth on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly from Austin Christensen.
