Statewide TeamMates fundraiser to feature Osborne, Switzer

LINCOLN (Aug. 21, 2003) — “Calling the Plays,” this year’s TeamMates Mentoring Program major fundraiser, will be held Friday, Sept. 12, at the Strategic Air & Space Museum near Ashland. Walter and Suzanne Scott, and Tom and Nancy Osborne will co-host the event. The Osbornes founded the TeamMates program.

Special guests for the evening will be Former Oklahoma head football coach Barry Switzer, and ABC TV sports announcer, former Pittsburgh Steeler, and College Hall of Fame and Pro Football Hall of Fame member Lynn Swann. The evening’s program will feature video highlights of historic and exciting games between the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Oklahoma Sooners during the years when Osborne and Switzer were coaching. The former head coaches will share their thoughts and memories about the great rivalry, as well as answer questions.

Swann, who for years has actively promoted mentoring youth and other volunteer activities throughout the U.S., will share his thoughts and experiences about the mentoring process. The University of Nebraska Scarlet and Cream Singers will provide entertainment.

Proceeds from the dinner and evening’s entertainment will go to support the TeamMates Mentoring Program across the state. TeamMates currently provides mentors for more than 2,200 youth in 63 communities, including the new TeamMates communities of Sutton and Alliance.
