Nebraska came up on the short end of a 28-6 score against Ernie Davis and the Orangemen, but the Huskers’ Bill “Thunder” Thornton outrushed the eventual 1961 Heisman Trophy winner. The Oct. 14th game in Lincoln was the first loss of the season for Bill Jennings’ Huskers after a 2-0-1 start.
