Poor play result in last second loss to Texas Tech.

Lubbock, Texas — Brandon Richardson scored a team-high 20 points, but a tip-in by Texas Tech's D'walyn Roberts with 3.8 seconds left lifted the Red Raiders to a 72-71 win over Nebraska Saturday night.

The Huskers (14-5, 2-3 Big 12) had retaken the lead at 71-70 after Brandon Richardson converted all three free throws after he was fouled attempting a 3-pointer with 11 seconds left. Texas Tech (9-11, 1-4 Big 12) got the ball to Mike Singletary in the lane, but he missed a contested drive, but Roberts got the carom and converted to give Texas Tech a one-point lead.

The Huskers had a chance to get one final attempt, but the ball was deflected out of bounds with 0.4 seconds. NU set up for a final shot, but was unable to get an attempt before the buzzer.

John Roberson led Texas Tech with 25 points, including seven 3-pointers, in a closely contested game featured 14 lead chances and eight ties. Singletary added 14 points, as Texas Tech shot 51.9 percent from the floor, the highest percentage against the Huskers all season and out-rebounded Nebraska, 36-25.

Richardson had a career-high 20 points in the loss, hitting 5-of-6 shots from the floor and all eight free throws, while Lance Jeter had a season-best 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting.

The Huskers fell behind early, as Texas Tech hit a trio of 3-pointers in the first 6:14 to build a 15-9 advantage. Nebraska came right back with seven straight points, as baskets by Jeter and Andre Almeida and a three-point play from Brandon Ubel. Tech quickly regained the lead at 19-16 after a Davis basket, but Richardson came back with five straight points, as his 3-point play gave NU a 21-19 lead. The Huskers, who shot 48 percent in the first half, eventually pushed the margin to 25-21, but a Robinson 3-pointer sparked a 5-0 run to put Texas Tech back on top 26-25. The Red Raiders led 32-31, but a Diaz basket and two free throws by Richardson gave NU a three-point lead before two free throws by Singletary made it a one-point lead at the break.

Texas Tech got off to a strong start as a basket and a 3-point play by Robert Lewandowski made it 39-35 before a Roberts steal and dunk gave the Red Raiders a six point lead. Nebraska fought back as a 3-pointer by Richardson and a McCray jumper trimmed the lead to 41-40, but a 3-pointer by Roberson and a Lewandowski basket made it 46-40. The Huskers trailed 48-40 before two Almeida baskets triggered a 7-2 spurt, as Nebraska got to within 50-47 after an Eshaunte Jones 3-pointer.

After a Roberson 3-pointer made it 53-47, Jeter led the Husker comeback, as his 3-pointer sparked a 10-4 surge that tied the score at 57. Jeter had eight of his 11 second-hald points in leading the Husker comeback. Nebraska regained the lead at 59-57 after a pair of Brandon Richardson free throws before Toney McCray's 3-pointer with 7:20 left made it 62-57.

Singletary then took the game over, scoring five straight points to tie the score at 62 layup before a Brad Reese jumper gave the Red Raiders the lead. Roberson then hit his seventh 3-pointer of the night to make it a 67-62 lead.

The Huskers made one last run, as a free throw by McCray ended the drought before Jeter's 3-pointer made it a one-point game with 1:47 left. After the teams traded a pair of free throws, Singletary split a pair with 27 seconds left, giving Texas Tech a 70-68 lead, but giving the Huskers one final chance that Richardson took advantage of.

The Huskers will be off until next Saturday afternoon, when they host No. 10 Texas A&M at the Devaney Center. Tickets are on sale now at Huskers.com or by visiting 800-8-BIGRED begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 800-8-BIGRED end_of_the_skype_highlighting.
