Huskers Dominate Terps for Ninth Win: I-back Terrell Newby rushed for a career-high three touchdowns and quarterback Ryker Fyfe won the first game as a starter of his career to lead No. 19 Nebraska to a 28-7 victory over Maryland

Fyfe completed a Nebraska team season-high 23 passes in 37 attempts for 220 yards. Fyfe was starting in place of injured senior Tommy Armstrong Jr.

Fyfe became the first starting QB other than Armstrong or Taylor Martinez to win a game for the Huskers since Cody Green against Colorado in 2010.

Commentary

Stryker

The best news for Husker fans Saturday was that the Blackshirts completely shut down the running game of Maryland.

HuskerMax

Nebraska wasn’t perfect on Saturday, especially in the second half, but there were plenty of things to be happy about.

Huskers Illustrated
Vogel

A group defined by its ability to handle whatever comes, simply handled its business and that ... seemed like a fitting Lincoln finale.

Hail Varsity
Callahan

I thought the collective pass rush of the front four was as good as it’s been all season.

Nierengarten

Their careers weren’t perfect, but their senior day was.

Daily Nebraskan
Hamar

Nobody wanted Armstrong to be hurt, but it is somewhat fitting that since he was, Fyfe was the guy to step in.

Grand Island Independent
Chatelain

Sometimes the big picture is hard to grasp on a day like Saturday, but ... Fyfe didn’t seem to miss it.

[Fyfe] clearly was ready. You could see it from the start. You could see it pretty much all day.

The only thing missing was Fyfe’s old favorite receiver from G.I. High. Guy named Foltz.

Omaha World-Herald
Heady

Not much changed with Fyfe at the helm. ... He proved on Saturday if he is the guy the next two weeks, Nebraska might be OK.

Keeler

Even if No. 4 is rolling at about 70 percent ... he’s still a safer bet against an Iowa defense that loves to tee the heck off against a stationary target.
