Huskers mauled by Mizzou in Columbia

Nebraska struggled to get rolling on offense and was unable to stop quarterback Chase Daniel and the Missouri offense in a 41-6 loss to the Tigers at Faurot Field.

Missouri jumped to a quick 14-0 lead in the first half and never looked back. Missouri amassed 606 yards of total offense, more than double the Huskers’ 297 yards.

The Tigers won the coin toss, elected to receive and marched 80 yards in 12 plays capped by Daniel’s one-yard scoring run. That proved to be all the offense the Tigers would need, but Daniel kept the points coming. He added the first of two passing touchdowns when he connected with Chase Coffman on a six-yard touchdown pass to push MU’s lead to 14-0 with 4:57 left in the first quarter.

Daniel passed for 401 yards and rushed for 72. Martin Rucker led the Tiger receiving corps with nine catches for 109 yards.

Nebraska senior quarterback Sam Keller completed 25 of 43 pass for 223 yards, but the Huskers were held out of the end zone, settling for a pair of Alex Henery field goals. It was the first time since a 30-3 loss at Oklahoma in 2004 that Nebraska was unable to score a touchdown.

Commentary

Colonel Mustard

Our team was lifeless and seemed confused. The defensive problems of the last month were magnified in this game.

Sipple

Nebraska’s lack of fire out of the gate is troubling. It’s one of the more serious issues faced by the coaches.

Lincoln Journal Star

It’s becoming more and more evident that college football’s landscape has changed maybe forever and Husker fans are going to have to adapt.

Grand Island Independent

What does this offense need in order get one or two yards running the ball on 3rd down? A six-star running back? An all-NFL line?

McKeever

Daniel was like someone playing video-game football against a first-timer.

Lincoln Journal Star
Stryker

The Huskers were still in position to make a game of it in the second half. But this Nebraska team had nothing in the tank.

North Platte Bulletin
Bishop

It's a loss that cannot be explained away by ‘parity’ because there was nothing equal about the two teams.

Gouldsmith

The same excuses week after week about ‘lack of execution’ are getting tiresome.

Daily Nebraskan
Husker Dan

Everyone knew that the Husker defense would be in for a struggle most of the night, but who knew that the offense would also be a no-show?

If you didn't leave the stadium feeling good about the state of Missouri football now, then you are an incurable pessimist.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Walljasper

Nebraska’s defensive philosophy was obvious: Rush three linemen and keep everything in front of you.
