Huskers bury Buffs as defense, QB Taylor shine

Fueled by the second-best passing day in school history and a near-shutout performance by the Blackshirt defense, Nebraska handed Colorado its first home loss of the season with a dominating 30-3 victory.

Nebraska junior quarterback Zac Taylor completed 27-of-43 passes for 392 yards and two touchdowns. His yardage was just 39 shy of his own school record, set against Iowa State on Oct. 1. Taylor’s big day helped lead Nebraska to 497 yards of total offense to 212 for the Buffs, who came into the game favored by two touchdowns.

Taylor’s top target was senior I-back Cory Ross, a Denver native. Ross caught a running back school-record nine passes for 129 yards.

The Blackshirts surrendered 89 yards on the Buffaloes’ first two possessions, but the Buffaloes managed just 54 yards over their next 10 possessions as the Huskers put the game out of reach. The Huskers ran 90 total plays and controlled the clock for 38 minutes.

No matter what happens in San Antonio, the Huskers are assured of at least a winning season. And who knows, maybe the Huskers have one more surprise game in them this season.

What I believe really happened to the Buffaloes is they raised the ire of their rival and were made victims to what happens when crisp execution matches desire.

The Huskers came into Boulder with a mission to play their best game of the year, and in every aspect of the game, they accomplished just that.
