Huskers come up short at Ames

Nebraska’s late comeback attempt fell short and the Huskers dropped into a tie for the Big 12 North lead as they fell to Iowa State, 34-27, at Jack Trice Stadium.

Brandon Jackson capped a nine-play, 60-yard scoring drive with 5:01 remaining to pull Nebraska within seven points, 34-27.

After Jackson’s touchdown, the Blackshirts held ISU in check before getting the ball back to the Husker offense with 2:55 to play. But quarterback Joe Dailey’s first pass was picked off and Iowa State converted a late fourth down attempt as the Cyclones held on for their second straight victory over the Huskers in Ames.

ISU quarterback Bret Meyer connected on 17 of 36 passes for 345 yards and three scores, including a 77-yarder to seal the win.

Commentary

Colonel Mustard

Our gameplan features our struggling QB and not our hot running back. I bet Iowa State's coaches were happy with that.

Shatel

Cotton mixed it up and played to his strengths. Callahan did not.

Omaha World-Herald
McKeever

Nebraska proved Saturday it had no business being in the driver's seat.

Lincoln Journal Star
Douglass

Perhaps part of the problem with last week's feel-good win was that it masked many of Nebraska's shortcomings.

Khus the Red

This team has apparently hit its peak, and that peak is one of severely painful inconsistency and what has become a sickeningly predictable tendency for letdowns.

Mabry

How do you like them Cotton-pickin' apples? The Huskers were beaten by Barney Ball.

Lincoln Journal Star
Howard

Nebraska would have beaten Iowa State if the Huskers could have done the most fundamental things properly.

Nebraska StatePaper
Leever

Barney Cotton coaches one game as offensive coordinator against Cosgrove’s D and looks like a wizard.

Kuppig

You've got to admire the players for sticking up for Cosgrove – at least publicly. You've got to wonder, though, what it's like behind the scenes.
