Lord’s big day boosts Huskers past Cowboys

Quarterback Jammal Lord set a pair of school records, rushing for 218 yards and three scores and accounting for 369 yards of total offense, as Nebraska rolled up 595 yards in a 38-14 victory over McNeese State.

The junior from Bayonne, N.J., scored on runs of 5, 56 and 57 yards as the Huskers rushed for a season-best 444 yards and snapped a two-game losing streak.

The Cowboys, ranked No. 2 in Division I-AA, stayed within striking distance through the third quarter, trailing 21-7, until the Huskers pulled away with 17 points in the final period.

NU marched 82 yards on 16 plays before Josh Brown’s 22-yard field goal gave the Huskers a 17-point lead with 14:52 remaining. After holding the Cowboys on their subsequent possession, Nebraska needed only one play to extend the lead to 31-7 as true freshman Mark LeFlore took a reverse and sprinted 64 yards for a touchdown. It was the first time LeFlore had touched the ball in his Husker career.

McNeese made it 31-14 on Marcus Trajan’s one-yard scoring run before Lord’s third touchdown, a 56-yard scamper, provided the final margin.
