Husker defense stout again in rout of Tigers

Nebraska’s demolition of the Big 12 continued as the Huskers dominated the entire game en route to a 51-7 victory over the Missouri Tigers.

It marked NU’s 18th straight win over Mizzou, the Huskers’ 35th straight home victory and 29th consecutive in conference play.

Once again the story of the day was the Husker defense setting the table. The Blackshirts caused four Missouri turnovers that the Husker offense converted into 21 points. The Husker defense also scored on a blocked punt and a safety, accounting for 30 points on the afternoon.

The Husker defense narrowly missed shutting out Missouri for the second straight season. The Tigers scored on NU reserve defenders with two minutes remaining. In fact, Mizzou gained just 47 yards on 43 rushes and did not cross midfield until 33 seconds remained in the third quarter.

Overall, the Huskers held the Tigers to 170 yards of total offense. While the Husker defense was the key, NU’s offense also looked strong, scoring six touchdowns, including five in the second and third quarters. I-back Ahman Green, hampered by a toe injury for five weeks, looked in top form, gaining 161 yards on 12 carries and scoring one touchdown.

Quarterback Scott Frost continued his efficient passing, connecting on nine of 14 passes for 114 yards and one touchdown.
