Recap

Cornhuskers cruise past outmanned Pacific

The Nebraska offensive machine continued to roll against Pacific as the Huskers amassed more than 700 yards in a 49-7 victory.

It was the fourth consecutive game in which Nebraska had piled up more than 650 yards of total offense.

The Huskers opened a 21-0 lead after one quarter and a 35-0 edge at halftime, before substituting freely in the second half.

Nebraska gained 569 yards on the ground, the seventh-best rushing day by a Cornhusker squad. Junior Damon Benning led the rushing attack with 173 yards and three first-quarter touchdowns, while freshman Ahman Green added 113 yards and two scores.

The game marked the 31st game all time and the second consecutive week in which Nebraska had two 100-yard rushers. It was the first time since midway through the 1991 season that NU had back-to-back games with two runners over 100 yards.

The Blackshirt defense shut down Pacific, before putting in reserve units midway through the third quarter. The Tiger offense had just 73 yards at halftime and finished the game with 197 total yards, including just 60 on the ground. Pacific did not cross midfield until less than seven minutes remained in the third period.

Rover Mike Minter and linebacker Terrell Farley each had four tackles to lead the defensive attack.

Commentary

Shatel

Benning began to see the light at the end of his nightmare Saturday. It was the end zone.

It is an odd twist that Nebraska I-back Damon Benning scored his second touchdown after a block by Riley Washington Saturday as Nebraska demolished Pacific.
