Official recap
Nebraska's offense was hot as the weather as the Huskers scored nine touchdowns against the Kansas Jayhawks. The 85° temperature brought out the best in the Cornhuskers as they downed KU 63-21.
The offense set a Big 8 record of 799 total yards as the Huskers were no match for the inexperienced Jayhawks.
Nebraska led by only 7-0 after the first quarter, but erupted for five second-period TDs to hold a 42-7 halftime edge.
The Huskers scored three times in a five-minute span in the second period to put the game out of reach. A one yard quarterback sneak by Tom Sorley, a 64 yard jaunt by Craig Johnson, and a 44 yard pass from Sorley to tight end Junior Miller broke the game open.
Johnson, the NU offensive player of the game, gained 192 yards on ten carries and scored twice, to pace the Huskers. Johnson, a third team I-back, playing because injuries sidelined Rick Berns and Tim Wurth, also caught a 78-yard screen pass for a touchdown.
The Nebraska quarterbacks completed ten of eleven passes for 283 yards, and combined for four TDs through the air.
