Official recap
Bill Bomberger, the kicking star of 1967, returned to the spotlight on All Sports Day by providing the Whites with a 10-8 victory in the annual windup to spring football practice.Bomberger, who shares the school record for most field goals in a season (6) with 1968 sensation Paul Rogers, came off the bench with 19 seconds left in the game to kick a 30-yard gem for the White win.
His kick was set up by a 50-yard pass from Frank Patrick to Larry Frost, the most explosive play of the game, which featured smashing defensive action.
The outstanding play of Red middle guard Ken Geddes dulled the White offense most of the way and had it 31 yards in the hole at halftime.
Quarterback aspirant Jerry Tagge turned in a creditable job after a White interception went for a 30-yard TD early in the game. He guided two good drives that wound up in unsuccessful field goal tries, then skippered a 55-yard march that put the Reds ahead, 8-7, with 8:48 left in the game.
But the Whites' desperation aerial show finally paid off and Bomberger kicked the deciding boot with 19 seconds left.
