Huskers roll past Coyotes in 1964 opener

Undermanned South Dakota supplied little resistance to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, debuting before more than 37,000 in enlarged Memorial Stadium.

The defending Big 8 champions tallied nine points in the first period on an 8-yard TD run by Kent McCloughan and a 30-yard field goal by Duncan Drum. It was 35-0 at halftime and the Cornhuskers poured more than 60 players into the second-half action.

NOTE: This was the Huskers’ final game using a single-platoon system.
