This is the cover of the program for the 1923 Kansas-Nebraska game, a day that featured the dedication of Nebraskas new stadium, memorializing those who gave their lives defending our country and our freedom. A parade through downtown Lincoln led by nearly 1,000 university cadets preceded the ceremony.
Northeast stadium inscription by Hartley Burr Alexander:
Their Lives they held their countrys trust; They kept its faith; They died its heroes
From the Lincoln Star:
Indeed, who will deny that the spirit of 64, of 98 and of the world war was not hovering above the stadium awakened by the Legion firing squad and thrilled by the bugler as the American flag was raised and lowered to half staff in tribute to those who had given to the last full measure of devotion.
