Miguel Recinos hit a 41-yard field goal on the final play, and Iowa emerged with a 31-28 victory Friday at Kinnick Stadium.

Nebraska (4-8, 3-6 Big Ten) rallied from a 28-13 deficit to force a 28-28 tie before Iowa (8-4, 5-4) drove for the game-winning score. Tight end T.J. Hockinson caught a 10-yard pass on fourth down to keep the Iowa drive alive.

Down 28-13, Nebraska drove 98 yards in 14 plays for a fourth-quarter TD, helped by linebacker Luke Gifford picking up a first down on fake punt deep in Nebraska territory. A 28-yard touchdown pass from Adrian Martinez to Maurice Washington cut Iowa’s lead to 28-20 with 13:57 remaining.

After a Nebraska defensive stop, Martinez scored on a 3-yard touchdown run and hit Kade Warner on a two-point conversion pass to tie the game 28-28 with 3:22 remaining.

Nebraska, though, never saw the ball again, as Iowa drove for the game-winning score.

Commentary

Stryker

So ends an erratic ride that gave Husker Nation tantalizing glimpses of the future, mixed with large, sobering helpings of the present.

Nebraska didn’t outplay Iowa, as a 10-point underdog, on the road, and still almost found a way to win.

Christopherson

I felt a little robbed that I didn't get to see Adrian Martinez and that offense work one more series in overtime.

Sipple

If you saw the way Iowa rag-dolled NU in the last two seasons, you understand the Huskers are making progress under Frost.

Lincoln Journal Star
Chatelain

The Huskers need to look more like Iowa in the trenches — and more like Ohio State on the perimeter.

Omaha World-Herald
Shatel

Nebraska is nobody’s pushover anymore. That seemed to be the theme of this season. But that won’t be good enough in 2019.

Omaha World-Herald

There is a lot to like about this season for the Huskers, and the hype going to next year is going to be legitimate.

HuskerOnline
Hamar

Iowa easily looked like the best team for most of three quarters, but the Huskers hung in.

Grand Island Independent
Hardesty

The Huskers had plenty of impressive moments in their loss on Black Friday, but there were tons of moments that showed why Nebraska went 4-8.

Daily Nebraskan
Leistikow

Four years ago, I have no doubt Ferentz would've punted on fourth-and-8. Friday, he played for the win — instead of playing not to lose. And, ultimately, his players made him look good.

Des Moines Register
Peterson

The Huskers got out-muscled by Iowa, whose gameplan was obvious, bland and frustratingly successful.
