Jayhawks lay goose egg against Huskers
Kansas managed to blank Nebraska in the first quarter, but the Cornhuskers then exploded for a 56-0 thrashing of the Jayhawks before a sellout crowd of 50,500 in Lawrence.
It was the third straight shutout for the Cornhuskers.
Shaken by the fired-up Jayhawks’ first-quarter enthusiasm, the Huskers got busy in the second quarter and ripped off 28 quick points to put the game on ice.
Dave Humm got things warmed up with a 30-yard TD pass to Frosty Anderson for the ice-breaker, then quickly came back with a 72-yard scoring toss to Johnny Rodgers. After a fumble recovery at the KU 13, Dave Goeller scored three plays later, and with 45 seconds left in the half, Humm hit Goeller with a 10-yard TD pass.
Nebraska added two touchdowns in each of the last two quarters to turn the game into a rout. In three games Nebraska had outscored Minnesota, Missouri and Kansas, 157-0.
