Huskers hold off OSU’s late charge
A championship showdown with the Oklahoma Sooners was in sight, but the Huskers first had to tackle the Oklahoma State Cowboys. It was all NU for three quarters, but Nebraska had to hang on for dear life as the Pokes charged back.
NU led 20-3 going into the final quarter; the final score was 20-16.
Two long aerial drives spearheaded by Mike Miller pepped the Cowboys.
Nebraska, playing without several regulars, including Dennis Claridge and Rudy Johnson, scored on three Fred Duda-engineered drives (55, 70 and 63 yards), then dug in.
With the Cowboys in the bag, Nebraska had an 8-1 record, a 6-0 Big 8 mark and a No. 6 rating in the nation.
