Pitt crushes Huskers’ title hopes
Favored to deliver a victory and vie for the national championship, the Cornhuskers fell flat at Pittsburgh, 6-0.

A three-yard touchdown pass on fourth down early in the final quarter won it for the Panthers after a 30-yard run put them in scoring position.
Pitt ran 83 plays to the Huskers’ 42, according to the Lincoln Sunday Journal and Star. The score would have been more lopsided if not for ferocious defensive play by the Cornhuskers in the red zone. “Again and again the Husker defensive tightened just in time to avert disaster,” the Cornhusker yearbook reported, crediting George Sauer with “more than three-fourths of the tackles made inside the 15-yard line.”
