HUSKER DAN: FRED FROST AND SCOTT HOIBERG: CLONES?

Categories: 2019 Football

Two of Bill Moos’ Husker head coach hires over the past year and a half (IMHO) are grand slam home runs.  I’m talking about, of course, Fred Frost and Scott Hoiberg.

What’s that you say?  I have the names wrong?  Am I losing it?  Nah.  But it can be confusing keeping track of the two of them.

Scott Frost (football) and Fred Hoiberg (men’s basketball)  are two peas in a pod.  It’s even a little bit scary.  Let me explain.
Both Scott and Fred were born in the state of Nebraska.
Both are within two years in age of each other.
Both have family members who coached in the state of Nebraska.
Both excelled in sports in high school.
Both got Division 1 scholarships out of high school.
Both excelled in their respective sports in college.
Both played professionally at the highest level.
Both have succeeded as college head coaches.
Both coaches are offensive minded.
Both have a clear vision of where they want to take their respective programs.
Both have a rabid fan base on which to build their programs.
Both have a passion for teaching kids and building programs.
Both took head coaching jobs at their alma maters.
And most importantly for Husker fans, both of them are now head coaches at the University of Nebraska.
Man, how did Bill Moos do it?  When is the last time a Husker A.D.-or any Power Five A.D. landed two such high profile head coaches in such a short period of time?  It’s probably happened before, but I can’t recall when.  And yes, I know-neither Frost nor Hoiberg has had a chance yet to build his respective Husker program.  But the track record of both certainly points the way to lots of success at Nebraska.  I can’t wait to see how these two head coaches perform.
