With the 1916 football season approaching, University of Nebraska alum Cozette McManigell Brannon was blazing a trail in Arkansas. In charge of the second team at Jonesboro Agricultural College (now Arkansas State), she was believed to be the first female college football coach. Her husband, Earl Brannon, coached the varsity.
