Answering the naysayers

Welcome, everybody, to this special edition of the Carriker Chronicles the people's show. And on the show I have the biggest main event of all time! And I and I have the and I have the biggest guest of all time! Ric Flair.

But before I get to the main event I want to talk about some things regarding the Huskers that I have seen in the media and it hasn't been all good. As some of you know, ESPN doesn't have us going to a bowl game and there have there have been there have been several writers talking about how Nebraska is going to struggle not only now but in the future as well. I want to talk about this guy from Kentucky who filled in on the Paul Finebaum show, Matt Jones. He's basically nothing more than a fill-in for the Paul Finebaum show. He talked about how Nebraska, Notre Dame and Tennessee would never be national powers again. Keep in mind, these are schools that have a combined 40 national championships. He also talked about how Nebraska was nothing but corn and sadness. Keep in mind he's from Kentucky. I think they're known for a horse race once a year, bourbon, and teenagers who come play basketball for six months and leave. But I'm not going to do to him what I did to Baby Ferentz. Those statements have more holes in them than swiss cheese so I'm going to leave them alone.

What I'd like to do is talk about some of the things Nebraska has accomplished and the direction are going for it in. Now before people go off the deep end and say we're living in the past there's a difference between living in the past and appreciate history. There are entire classes and majors at universities devoted to history. Another thing I find funny is that a lot of the times people that accuse us of living in the past don't really have a history or tradition to appreciate. *cough* Iowa *cough*. No, just kidding, Iowa has a fine football history if you don't look at national championships, conference championships, major bowl victories, etc.

Here's a list of things the Nebraska football program has a complished. It's long because we've done a thing or two: We have the most victories against Power 5 schools all time, a winning percentage of .699 with a total of 899 wins, 3rd most all time. We have the most wins in the highest winning percentage of any program over the last 50 years.

Here are some of the NCAA records we either currently hold or have held: Most consecutive bowl games with 35, most consecutive 9+ win seasons with 33, 354 consecutive well outs and counting, 54 consecutive years with multiple players drafted into the NFL, a player drafted in each season since 1962. We are one of only 5 schools with that distinction.

Here are some more cool stats: 54 consensus all Americans, 25 players in the college football hall of fame, 3 more up for nomination this year, good luck to Eric Crouch, Zach Weigert and Aaron Taylor. 46 conference championships, 5 national championships, 3 Heisman winners, and a partridge in a pear tree. We are one of only 3 division 1A teams to win back-to-back consensus national championships. I don't know if most Husker fans know this, but we have a total of 10 undefeated seasons in our history.

Here are a couple more records. For 24 straight years, a former Husker has been on the Super Bowl champions roster, at one point we had won 29 consecutive season openers a streak that was only broken by a Hail Mary but was a record at that time. We had also at one point won 47 consecutive home games which is the fifth-longest streak in NCAA history. I don't know if this is a record but at one point we had 40 consecutive winning seasons.

Sure you can make a case against Nebraska football if you really want to, but to me it's all about coaching. Mike Riley has us going in the right direction. We currently have the number six ranked recruiting class in the country with more Talent on the way, we have an upgraded coaching staff, and an NFL-caliber quarterback on our roster. How can I program that has accomplished all that we've accomplished and is currently moving in the direction we're moving in not feel good about itself? Basically I like where we've been and I like where we are going once again.

But now, it's time for the biggest main event of all time. Ladies and gentlemen, making her Carriker Chronicle debut, the latest addition to Husker Nation in the Carriker family: Jordyn May Carriker. Angie and I love the name Jordyn with the Y, she was born on May 31st, so we got the name Jordyn May. She was born at 6:02 AM, 6 pounds, 14 ounces, 21 inches long. Born at 37 weeks, she is the biggest baby we've had. All of our babies have come early so she is also the latest baby we've had. Now for those of you wondering when number 7 is coming, I think I have a bag of frozen peas in my near future, hence the shirt I'm wearing which says "Captain 6 Pack." She is healthy and doing well but we do have to keep an eye out for jaundice which has to do with the blood cells and the yellowing of the skin. She is susceptible to that but doing well.

So for now I am going back on break and I will see you this fall. Until then, Husker Nation, Go Big Red and always remember ... to THROW THE BONES!!!!
