Big Red Cobcast: The Tunnel Walk

I’ve been thinking about the tunnel walk a little lately.

I actually really liked the “Come Together” for the spring game. Tradition is great and there is a place for it but I think tradition can be used as a weapon and I’ll get to that in a minute but for this discussion I’d like to say that I think for the new Frost Era – we need a new song.

I don’t know what that song is. There’s not just one perfect choice, there are a tons of great songs that the players would love, that the fans would love and that the intruding fans would be afraid of.

Off the top of my head, I think Eminem’s “Til I Collapse” could be cool or Limp Biscuit’s “Break Stuff” would get people rowdy (but I think Limp Biscuit may be a little like picking a Nickel Back song at this point). There are also some great tough Johnny Cash songs to choose from. I don’t know know what the answer is but I don’t think it’s a bad idea to start looking.

Now to my bigger point… Imagine this.

It’s a cold day on Black Friday, Two Thousand and Twenty Eight A.D. The game is no longer Iowa, Bill Moos has switched it to Wisconsin because he’s the man (and also Iowa is no longer a school because they are too stupid to need a university at this point). In 2018, We changed our tunnel walk song to DMX’s “Bring Ya Whole Crew”. #2 Nebraska is the 7 point under dog to a vicious #1 ranked Wisconsin Badgers. The crowd in Lincoln is amped, the atmosphere is electric. Nebraska is so close to being back that you can smell the adrenaline in the air. All of a sudden the LED screens all go black. The crowd is intensely silent.

Then over the loud speakers you here the old tunnel walk, the one that was there when we won our last title over 30 years ago and THE CROWD GOES ABSOLUTEY APECRAP BANANAS and we win by 28. We go on to beat Vanderbilt for Scott Frost’s first, of 3 in a row, national titles and it’s all thanks to changing the tunnel walk song in 2018.

Think about that. That’s is some epic stuff right there. You’re welcome.
