An ineffective pass rush continued to concern coach Bob Devaney after a pair of practices on a hot and humid Tuesday, 11 days before the season opener against Wake Forest.
With three starters from last season gone, the defensive secondary can ill afford the extra burden of an opposing quarterback with ample time to throw, Devaney said. He did like what he was seeing from sophomore defensive tackle Rich Glover.
During scrimmaging in the morning session, the defensive backs were strong in their coverage but “awfully weak in their tackling,” Devaney said.
Junior I-back Jeff Kinney, hobbled by a strained hamstring since Saturday, was back in action. Senior offensive guard Bob Grenfell sat out with a groin injury.
Tuesday afternoon’s session ended with relay races, and assistant coaches took part.
