Three Huskers missed Tuesday’s practice as Nebraska prepared for its trip to Lawrence to face Kansas.

Monster back Dave Morock had a twisted knee, cornerback Joe Blahak was fighting the flu and linebacker Bruce Hauge was nursing a back injury. Coach Bob Devaney said the first and second units would be held out of scrimmaging the rest of the week.

The Huskers’ passing game was a focus of Tuesday’s session after an aerial performance against Missouri that left a lot to be desired, the Omaha World-Herald reported.

As for the defense, Devaney cautioned that the Blackshirts would be facing the most balanced offense of any opponent since Southern Cal.

In the weekly polls released Tuesday, Nebraska rose a notch to fifth and fourth, thanks to USC’s upset loss to Stanford. The Huskers also received first-place votes for the first time since early in the 1967 season.
