Nov. 30: Third All-America honor for Newton.

Nebraska’s Bob Newton hauled in another top honor Monday as he was named to Look magazine’s All-America team, selected by the Football Writers Association of America.

It was the third All-America honor for the senior offensive tackle, named earlier to the Football News and Kodak squads.

The Lincoln Journal’s Don Forsythe, meanwhile, noted that Southern Cal’s upset of Notre Dame on Saturday meant the Huskers’ hopes for a No. 1 finish were “suddenly more than a flicker.”

It’s “asking a lot” to wish for both Texas and Ohio State to stumble, he wrote, “but who’d have bet his farm that the Trojans were going to run over Notre Dame?”

After a week off, the team resumed workouts Monday under the direction of trainers Paul Schneider and George Sullivan. The work focused on conditioning, and there would be no pads or contact until Dec. 10.
