Nov. 26: Another honor for Harper.

On Thanksgiving Day, Nebraska continued feasting on postseason honors as United Press International named defensive end Willie Harper the Big Eight’s top sophomore lineman.

Also receiving votes for the honor were flanker Johnny Rodgers (Lineman? Go figure) and center Doug Dumler.

A day earlier, Harper was among more than a dozen Huskers earning first- or second-team spots on UPI’s All-Big Eight squads.

Nebraska players, now in their fifth day of a 41-day gap between games, had the week off, but No. 1 Texas had a Thanksgiving date with Texas A&M to deal with. It was no contest as the Longhorns trounced the Aggies, 52-14, but at least three Texas starters suffered injuries that raised concerns about their availability for the Dec. 5 showdown with Arkansas for a Cotton Bowl berth.
