Roughly 48 hours before the big game, the Huskers went through a light practice Wednesday night under the Orange Bowl lights and planned to wrap up preparations for LSU with a brief daytime session Thursday.

Coach Bob Devaney spoke of what it might mean if No. 1 Texas and No. 2 Ohio State were upset in their New Year’s Day bowl games before LSU and third-ranked Nebraska kicked off their game Friday night. “It’s silly to say that such a happening wouldn’t start the adrenaline flowing even higher in our boys,” he said, “but it should also juice up Louisiana State.”

Louisiana columnist Bill Carter predicted a 14-10 LSU victory and said, “Nebraska has a powerful running game, but nobody is apt to run against LSU.”
